Open about three windows for this for easy access to information you need. If you need more windows, open more windows, however many you need. I personally use three windows for battle.

We're first going to battle an enemy in the Mystical Forest called Man Eating Plant, its an easy opponent to defeat for beginners due to its low stats.
Now first we'll open a window to your character profile, to get here go to your own profile by clicking on your name in either one of your own posts or on the member list.
There should be some tabs at the top of your profile, click on the Character Sheet tab and if you haven't already, generate your character.
Now you'll see a whole ton of character information but the only parts we're interested in are your Stats and Class, these are THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS in battles. So lets atleast have them on hand to look at.

Open a new window and navigate your way to the Mystical Forest thread in the Conflict Zones, leave it on that page for now, we will use it extensively for our battle once we've set up everything.

Open a third window, this will be your information gathering window. Right now its only use is to check your opponents stats, so navigate to the Mystical Forest thread with this one as well. Now we're ready to begin our battle againt our first opponent.

Speed Round (Players turn)
I am going to use base stats for the examples since I'm assuming you just generated your sheet.

Open your second window again, the important one remember. We'll need to click on the reply button to reply to the thread we're in so that we can start the battle, please remember that your battle is self moderated so that you can continue to interact with the world around you even when people are not online to interact with.

From here type in your opening phrase and health stat and speed stat like this:

Caln stood ready with his scythe blade at hand, his opponent of choice was the Man Eater Plant that sat before him. He was ready to rush in when he can.

Health: 10
Speed: 5

Everything here is important, we know what your character is doing, what his current health is and how fast he can move. But don't post this yet, there is still one more thing to add.
Scroll down to where the reply section says Dice roll and use the selection box to select Speed 1-5. This will create a number between 1 and 5 with the movement picture when your post is generated and the number will be displayed by our DiceMachine NPC automatically. Now send your post with the send button and you should get a similar result to what Dice machine has given us.

Speed Round (Enemy Turn)
We have gotten a 5 with our last roll, your number could be anything between 1 and 5, including 1 and 5.

Now that we have decided how fast our character is going to make a move, its time to decide how fast our enemy is going to make a move.
Click reply, we are now going to write out our enemies responce to our encounter:

The plant burrowed its roots into the ground awaiting Calns approach, the roots were being prepared to use as weapons so that the plant could have its next meal.

Health: 5
Speed: 3

See, exactly the same way we set up our character we set up our enemy. However you can see why we chose this particular opponent for our battle, its stats are terrible so you shouldn't have a problem with defeating it.
Exactly the same as before, set up the dice roll. This time select Speed 1-3. Send your message and Dice Machine will post the result of the roll.

Speed Round (Summary)

Looks like we've gotten a 5 and our opponent a 1, this means we go first. Why? Because our number is higher then theirs, simple as that.

However you may not have gotten the same result. If your opponent was given a higher number then you, they get the first turn.

Next comes a slightly more complicated round where you will be going damage to your opponent, remember the window you use to check your enemy stats, we're about to check on the techniques your class can do next.

If you won the dice roll, go to the Damage Round (Players Turn), if you lost then go to the Damage Round (Enemy Turn).

Damage Round (Players Turn)
If you noticed on your profile, you don't actually have a weapon...And neither does Caln for that matter, the weapon described is simply for roleplay perposes, it doesn't affect the battle or reflect current equipment.

So its your turn to attack, what do you do? Simple, click reply and I'll show you:

Caln rushed in at his opponent, his scythe held high as he brought it down on one of the plants many vines.

Health: 10
Basic Attack: (Half Strength)
Strength: 5

If you obtained the higher number in the Speed Round and this is your first turn then this will be pretty much how you would post your first move. Again you'd roll a dice from the Dice Roll section of the reply page before submitting your reply.
Notice something wrong with the above reply when selecting your dice? Next to the declared attack type I have written Half Strength to remind me this attack only does damage equal to half of Calns strength. Lets go see if that is true, go look at the Class Assignment Boothe thread in The Great Neutral City forum, use your third window for this.
Basic Strike Cause damage to your opponent using half of your strength.
Sure enough, it does half damage. However we have run into a little problem, Caln has 5 strength and there is no 2.5 dice. How do we solve this?
The answer is easily, pick the Damage 1-3 dice. It's a good job we wrote that reminder eh? Try getting into the habbit of writing reminders where you can in your posts, just incase you forget something you may need to remember.

If you are responding to your opponents last attack your post will be slightly different:
Caln evaded the roots with relative ease, he then swung around with his scythe aiming to cut off the plants vines.

Health: 7
Basic Attack: (Half Strength)
Strength: 5

See the difference, your character had to respond to your enemies attack before attacking. Not only that your Health stat has gone down based on the amount of damage your enemy caused. But hold on, the attack missed didn't it? It says so in the reply. Well no, from a roleplay perspective the attack missed, however with the games mechanics attacks never miss, they'll always do at least 1 damage unless the attacks effect doesn't do damage.

Once your post is complete and your dice set up, send your post. DiceMachine will again display your result like a good mindless machine.
If you haven't already, read the Damage Round (Enemy Turn) post. If you have then keep battling with the advice taken until either your or your opponent is defeated.
Once you've won or lost you've completed your first battle, a moderator/admin will post what you won if you won and add them to your profile.

Damage Round (Enemy Turn)

So its your enemies turn to attack, what do you do? Simple, click reply and I'll show you:

The roots smashed out of the ground, striking at the human on the way up.

Health: 5
Strength: 3

If your enemy obtained the higher number in the Speed Round and this is their first turn then this will be pretty much how you would post their first move. Again you'd roll a dice from the Dice Roll section of the reply page before submitting your reply. Roll a Damage 1-3 dice.

If you have already attacked then your opponent will be responding to your last attack so their post will be slightly different:
As roots were chopped off more roots broke through to the surface, while this was occuring the plant drew back its vines, ready for a different kind of strike.

Health: 3
Strength: 5

See the difference, your enemy had to respond to your characters attack before attacking. Not only that your enemies Health stat has gone down based on the amount of damage you caused.

Once your post is complete and your dice set up, send your post. DiceMachine will again display your result like a good mindless machine.
If you haven't already, read the Damage Round (Players Turn) post. If you have then keep battling with the advice taken until either your or your opponent is defeated.

Victory or Defeat
Fight over, now you can either go off and learn the rest on your own or you can sit here a little longer and read the rest of the guide, doesn't really matter which you do.

So you won? Or maybe you lost? Either way the fights over, lets see what you could have won for each.

We'll start with a loss, simply because there's nothing really to put.
If you're battling an Enemy in an area, you get nothing for a loss. Your loss is written down on your profile ofcourse.
If you're battling another character then it depends on your levels, you will generally always get atleast 1 AP even if you lose a player vs player fight.

Moving onto victory.
If you win against an Enemy in an area, you get the amount of AP listed on its Ap Gain.
AP is actually given to every weapon individually, win a fight and each and every weapon gets that much AP. You also get a chance at a random item, when a moderator/admin is listing your gains they will roll a dice based on that enemies item drop. If it lands on one of the correct numbers you get a prize. If not...Maybe next time.
If you are apart of a guild you will get money based on your guilds Victory Salary.

If you win against another character, you get AP depending on your levels.
AP is actually given to every weapon individually, win a fight and each and every weapon gets that much AP.
If you are apart of a guild you will get money based on your guilds Victory Salary.
At the end of a fight a moderator/admin will list each players gains and update their profiles to reflect the outcome and gains.

Other Techniques

Aside from the Basic Strike there are other techniques available to classes. Each do their own thing based on their listed ability so we will only be discussing those available to New Recruits , which is a class available to everyone from the start.

We've already battled using Basic Strike so we'll skip the explaination of that one.

Basic Heal: Heal damage on yourself using your wisdom.
This move is the same as Basic Strike, except, you're not damaging your opponent but healing yourself. For this you will use your wisdom stat and roll a Heal dice, since your base stat is 5 you will roll a Heal 1-5 dice to use this and heal your health based on the result.

Basic Buff: Roll an Effect Dice, if you get over 7 then increase your damage by 5 for your next 5 turns.
This is an effect type move and as you can see it doesn't do damage on its own, to execute this you roll the number of Effect Dice it says to roll then hope to fate that you get the number over or under that activates your effect. With this one you roll only one Effect Dice, the Effect dice will always roll from 1-10, if you get over 7 on the roll then for the next five turns you do an extra five damage when you attack. With our base stats that brings our damage up to between 6 and 8, a worthwhile gamble if it pays off. Of course its a waste of a turn if you don't get the number you want, goodluck.

Its not important to beginners but later on there will be some moves that require the speed stat to work, add that to its ability to decide turn order and it is a valueable stat, try not to ignore it just because its use is little at first.

Rolling Multiple Dice
That's it for the guide, apart from one thing. Rolling multiple dice.
When your stats are over 10, meaning 11 and above, you may notice there isn't any dice off 1-11 or higher. This is where you roll a second or even third dice.
For 11 you roll a 1-10 and a 1-1 dice. Notice that your lowest possible number is 2 now, since when you add them together the lowest you can get is 1 + 1. Your stats reflect this.
To roll two of the same dice, like having a stat at 20, look at the Dice Roll section and find Dice rolls : See the number? Change it to the number of dice you want to roll. Simple as that.
To roll two different dice is abit trickier, next to the number mentioned before there is a + sign, click it and a second Dice roll option will appear. Then just put one dice in one and one in the other, done.
Finally, to roll three dice but with two the same. E.g. 21. Use both actions, change the number in the first box and then press the plus and don't change the number in the second box.
